Somos Natureza - Somos Ilha Grande

This Forum was conceived to provide a physical and temporal space for the gathering of various actors from Ilha Grande who are engaged in the pursuit of sustainable development. The primary focus is on the preservation of nature, respect for the traditions and way of life of traditional Caiçara people, and the promotion of ecologically responsible tourism.

UNITING FORCES FOR A SUSTAINABLE PRESENT

We are pleased to share with you the inspiring moments and promising solutions that emerged during the "First Somos Ilha Grande Forum" held from September 15 to 17, 2023, a significant event hosted at Pousada Paraíso Azul Retiro on Ilha Grande. Organized by the NGO Somos Natureza, this forum brought together representatives from various communities on the island, including the Quilombola community of Bracuí, along with NGOs and associations committed to the care of the island and its communities

Our Objective?
DISCUSS AND ADDRESS THE SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES SURROUNDING ILHA GRANDE, WORKING TOGETHER TO FIND EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS

Our supporters, including Pousada Paraíso Azul,Plastic House,Junior Brigade,Opaoma It isMarulhoEco, played a crucial role in the realization of this event. During the forum, various critical challenges affecting Ilha Grande were highlighted, such as the waste problem, the need for better education quality for children in the communities, lack of public transportation between beaches, basic sanitation issues, predatory tourism, and threats posed by zoonoses and invasive species in this ecosystem.

But we don't just stop with concerns. The "First Forum We Are Ilha Grande" was also a space of hope and action, where concrete short and medium-term solutions were outlined. Among them, we highlight the creation of collection points for recycled waste on the beaches of Bananal, Matariz, Freguesia, and Saco do Céu, the promotion of solidarity and community transportation, the promotion of community-based tourism, the formation of working groups focused on education, and beach cleanup initiatives.

Our journey towards a more sustainable future for Ilha Grande is just beginning, but we are full of determination and optimism.
